Karen Peppel Memorial Scholarship Karen spent her life providing care to others. Her long nursing career began as a certified nursing assistant and she later attained her LPN and then her RN licenses. Karen understood and appreciated all levels of nursing care provided in a long-term care setting, and worked in a number of facilities, including Bridges Care Community. Known for her personal approach to healthcare, Karen was known to laugh and cry with the residents. Karen was instrumental in establishing the Healthcare Careers Course based at Ada/Borup High School. Many students from Ada/Borup, Norman County East, and Norman County West High Schools received their first introduction to the healthcare field through the course and were able to earn the Certified Nursing Assistant certificates. A number of her former students are currently working in healthcare and some have gone on to higher education in a healthcare field. “Karen touched many lives, and because of her enthusiasm, compassion, and laughter, her memory will be with us for many years to come,” said Dan Rohrbach, CEO of Bridges. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an applicant from a Norman County school, who has demonstrated a dedication to excellence in education and contribution to their school and community. Preference will be given to those seeking higher education in healthcare, but that criteria alone will not be the final determinant. Applicants are asked to submit a completed application form, an official school transcript, a 2-3 page essay, a current resume, and a letter(s) of recommendation. Applications can be downloaded here or are available from Bridges Medical Center, the high school offices at Ada/Borup, Norman County East, and Norman County West during the open period for applications.
